The Rainband @ HMV Ritz 18/12/11

The Rainband have come such a long way since 2009 when we first heard of them. When they first formed you could sense their work ethic was strong, it was clear to see they practiced hard to get their style tight.

All the hard work is paying dividends for this four piece as they are emerging as ones to watch in 2012, already supporting high profile acts like The Fall, Badly drawn boy, Simply Minds and Ocean Colour Scene.

This was the first time I had time to look around the HMV Ritz and I can see why so many acts around the UK want to play in it. The sound was incredible and the space itself is very inviting. I can definitely see the venue being one that grows in popularity as time goes on.

The Rainband are a very polished outfit each track I heard had the entire crowd dancing around and their support is incredible for a band who have not been around that long. No wonder Manchester based label Affinity Records signed the boys, once again highlighting The Rainband’s commitment to the Manchester scene.

The gig also showed off the way the band mix up vocal duties and how the harmonies between the members work to each song this guitar driven band are really making grand strides upward.

The band paid homage to  their Manchester roots and came back to  the fact this is where they are from. This was backed up when the track ‘I believe in you’ was dedicated to the Manchester faithful, which I felt showed how humble as well as respectful the band are.

The Rainband shared many thank you’s at the HMV Ritz, these were well received all around the venue I always have a lot of time for a band who understands that they should thank their supporters no matter who they are and The Rainband did so.

Although ‘The Prodigal,’ featuring Rowetta is an amazing track and the addition on certain tracks of the saxophone player from Ocean Colour Scene was greatly received, I still have a soft spot for ‘Broken Youth,’ and this track highlights my memory of the gig and the first Rainband track I owned, we at Quenched Music look forward to more.

This track does something to me – and the live performance of this track – wow just amazing in my opinion. Can’t wait to see more from these guys and it’s one of the many artists rising from the music scene of Manchester. Fantastic
