Kyo Wa ii hi is the new single EP by the unique four piece Glass Ankle in English the title translates ‘Today is a good day, the trio blend British indie with the Japanese musical tradition, yet this fusion is all their own and makes them so great to watch. No matter what genre you are into they have a somewhat eclectic sound, which could appeal to everyone, this is what makes them so appealing to listen to and are very sort after on the Unsigned circuit especially on acoustic nights.
Glass Ankle have a somewhat laid back lyrical style, which puts the audience at ease making many of those who do listen to them get entranced into their whole sound and demeanour. For me as a fan of this collective and critic I would want them to do more gigs as I feel this quartet get about their business silently and seamlessly, although this suits them I would love to really see them push themselves I think that they would surprise themselves on how far they would go.
The two track single ‘Kyo Wa ii hi’ and ‘Fuji’ are great lyrical marvels in that it once again blends all their styles into single songs making them very unique, yet they both have the Glass Ankle stamp on it although the title track is a wonderful track I prefer the ‘Fuji,’ only on a personal level it is one my favoured locations. The closes comparison to their distinctive sound would have to be dire straits with a hint of Cat Stevens as they are both dynamic yet creative, I look forward to the next instalment hopefully an album.
